The Devil made me do itAre you continuing to struggle with yourself? Are you hitting your head against the wall only to confuse yourself even more? Is career dreary setting in? Are you colleagues, family, and friends telling you how to manage your next career move? Have you had enough?

If you are in the “career spin cycle” of “should I or shouldn’t I” you must continue reading to help you understand three simple and practical reasons WHY you need to start working on your resume, marketing strategy, and next steps in your career.

#1 The Fiscal Cliff. I recently listened to NPR and a discussion on the Fiscal Cliff. One of the commentators mentioned how we are always “waiting for the next reason not to do something” here in America. No truer words were spoken. First we were “waiting for the election.” Then I overheard folks “waiting until after Christmas” to start their resumes. And yet again someone else mentioned waiting until after January 1st and the Fiscal Cliff. The only thing I have not heard is “I’m waiting to get through 12/21/12 and the Mayan prediction!” Waiting for the Fiscal Cliff to pass may be to your detriment. The reality is the Fiscal Cliff has nothing to do with your current employment situation unless of course your company suddenly announces a layoff in January 2013.

Solution: Start now and stop waiting! Sign up, set the date, and be finished by the 15th of January! You will have the back half of the month to send out resumes and network. Wow! A novel idea. You might actually beat the rush of other waiters and 11th hour procrastinators! Get noticed early in 2013 by the recruiters and headhunters.

#2 Scheduling. A solid and reputable resume writing service will be booked 2-3 weeks out with projects.  “Procrastination on your part is not an emergency on our part!” If you are thinking clearly about your next steps, you know the value in planning your career services in advance. Wait until the last minute and you will get leftovers.

Solution: Start now and stop waiting! Sign up, set the date, and be finished by the 15th of January! (Starting to see a trend?)

#3 Travel Light.  Start your new year with a spring in your step! Why carry your 2012 baggage into the new year? Is your family telling you to wait? Are you so consumed with your own self-doubt of your next move? Guess what? Not moving is more of a detriment than moving.

“If you stay where you’ve always been, you will be where you are right now!”

Solution:  Get up and get going! If you are stuck, a career coach can help you! Once you get your hour or two of coaching, you will begin to unclog your internal evil self-talk and move towards an enlightened path.

Today is 12/12/12. Make today matter! If you do, you will always remember that you made a change on a day that only comes around once in a lifetime!
